Burdeen “Buddy” Carlson, 89, Ada, MN, died at the age of 89, on Saturday, December 12, 2009, in Fargo, ND.
Born on December 26, 1919, he was the youngest child of Swen and Bertha Carlson. He was raised and educated in a country school in Anthony Township, near Halstad, MN. On March 16, 1946, Bud was married to Ruth Sundseth in Ulen, Minnesota. They raised their children and farmed in Anthony Township for many years. Bud was on various boards in the community, among them: the East Marsh River Lutheran Church Council, the Farmers Union Co-Op board, and the Anthony Township board. They enjoyed some winters in New Braunfels, Texas.
Bud and Ruth moved into Ada in 1995. He was able to go out to the farm to help his son, Tom, for many years after that. He was happiest when he was working or figuring out how to fix something. He saw many changes in his lifetime, and had interesting and funny stories to tell about his work. We will miss his wisdom, expertise, and counseling. In November of this year, Bud and Ruth moved into an apartment in Fargo for the winter months. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, and children Thomas (Yvonne Horge) Carlson of Halstad, Judith Ann (Harold) Thompsen of Fargo, grandchildren: Shane (Deb Halvorson), Brock, Kathryn (David VanderArk), Trevor, John (Shea Westcott), Courtney (Jeremy Anderson), and Laura, great-grandchildren: Jacob, Bailey, Cody, Austin, Lexie, and Savanna, one sister, Helen Carlson Lee, Moorhead, MN, and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by a son, baby boy Andrew; his parents; and siblings: Kenneth, Mildred, Leslie, Bernice, Wallace, and Erling.
Bud wrote: "I feel God is in charge of my future, be it life or death, and the promise of eternal life with Him is mine to grasp, paid for by His Son, Jesus, on the cross." We have been blessed to walk this generous earth with this gentleman farmer.
