Earle Martin Finch

Earle Martin Finch, 79, Ada, MN, died at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND, on January 7, 2013, following a brief illness.

Earle was born on December 1, 1933, in Fertile, MN. He grew up and attended school in Ada, the son of Wilbert and Gladys (Evenstad) Finch.

Earle married Patricia Gullekson in 1952, and they made their home in Ada until moving to Bemidji for one year where Earle sold life insurance. They settled in Fargo, ND, in 1957, and there they raised their three children, Debby, Fred and Natalie. Earle worked for the city of Fargo as a dairy inspector until he retired from that position. He was a free-hand sign painter and displayed his talent lettering mainly trucks and stock cars. He was an avid outdoors man, and he taught his children love for nature at an early age during camping, fishing and hunting trips. He made an annual trip with friends and relatives to Lake of the Woods. Deer hunting was Earleā€™s passion.

On December 2, 1977, Earle married Shirley Self. Soon thereafter, they moved to Windsor, ND. He briefly worked for Cass Clay Creamery in the field, and he then started a dairy products business which required some travel. While in Windsor, Earle served as a Stutsman County Special Deputy and earned several marksmanship awards. He was an active member of the local rod and gun club in the communities where he lived. He was a member of the NRA and a staunch republican. Earle and Shirley raised yellow Labradors and always had at least one dog in the house. In 2002, they moved to Ada to be closer to family.

Earle is survived by his wife, Shirley, Ada, MN; two daughters, Deborah (David) Facey, Moorhead, MN; Natalie Finch, Osage, MN; three step children, Brian (Jeannie) Self, Moorhead, MN; Brenda (Joe) Andrews, Fargo, ND; Kim (Mike) Moravec, Henderson, CO; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Earle was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Donna Sawrey and Kaye Loe; one son, Fredrick Finch; and a granddaughter, Dana Keblar. The family great fully appreciates the Essentia Health Fargo 4th Floor Critical Care Staff for their care.

Memorial Service: 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Fredrikson Funeral Home Chapel, Ada, MN.

Visitation: One hour before the service at the funeral home.
